This was a fun silhouette! It was for a nursery and not the traditional colors - black and white. I enjoyed doing something with a splash of color. The dog was adorable! He sat for his portrait and did very well!
Having more than 20 years experience painting portraits, I know the most rich and accurate portraits can be painted in just a few sweeps of a brush. Silhouettes push this concept by omitting skin color, hair color, eye color, even attire, leaving only the basic essence of that person for a viewer to recognize. That is why I often refer to silhouettes as portraits of the soul.
There's a moment when my piece of paper or canvas goes from a mess of scribbles or lines into the feeling of realizing that person. That's where my pursuit is in art. That's what I try to bring to the client.
